This week we are tackling long I spelling patterns. My firsties have suddenly become OBSESSED with spelling everything. Now, I am partly to blame. 😉 We spell A LOT in my class… When we are cleaning up we count backwards, 4, 3, 2, O-N-E- spells ONE! When we are getting into line, 1-19 then t-w-e-n-t-y- TWENTY! We are AWESOME! a-w-e-s-o-m-e, awesome, awesome, awesome are we! (A throw back to the cheers we said when I played sports…) We spell months, days of the week, sight words, spelling words and so on. You get the picture…However, you know the kids are hooked when they start saying things like, “put your pencils away: a-w-a-y!” Can we “w-r-i-t-e”? Oh man… 😉
So this week we are focusing on long I spelling patterns. Of course they hit us with every pattern in our spelling words so we will practice all of them in word work this week. I made a real quick Long I word sort to help some of my firsties to see the spelling patterns and to use them. You can grab it for free here! It includes three different extension activities, cones with the spelling patterns, and scoops with different words.
