What’s on my bookshelf?
1 Jun, 2012. 2 Comments. A Day In First Grade, First Grade, Uncategorized. Posted By: Kristen Smith

It’s amazing what the summer allows us time to do! For example this is now the second linky party I am attending and I love reading everyone else’s blogs and comments!! I stumbled across The clutter free classroom’s linky party about what we are reading this summer and just had to join in!

I love to read. I love to get sucked into a new world, a new place, into someone else’s story just for a little bit. (I think that is one of the reasons for summer, right?) So I was eager to join in on this party!

Last summer I was totally brought into the world of the Hunger Games and was very sad to finish that wonderful series. I’m DYING for JK’s new book to come out… (in September!!)

Alas, I have been carefully choosing my fiction reads for the summer. Which I will reveal in just a moment…

I will first guiltily admit that I devour education books and they are very high on my list of “books that I can’t wait to read (and re-read) this summer.” On this list are:

I am a huge advocate for using math bins and activities when teaching math and I can’t wait to read this book! I love her Literacy Center book and I am sure this will be just as good!
One of my goals this year is to implement the CAFE model in my classroom.
I absolutely LOVE this book and refer to it throughout the year.
The Daily 5 has revolutionized my teaching abilities and I can’t wait to glean even more information, tips and strategies for next year!

Now onto some “me” books. These I warn you are all over the place. In an attempt to get sucked into a new world, I am going to try:

I have tried ‘the Narnia’ series before and I wasn’t overly thrilled with it so I am going to give it another chance. *All* (okay maybe not all…) my friends rave about it so I must be missing something here!
Oh my word. I have started this book already and it is HYSTERICAL. I laughed out loud, multiple times.

I have read this book a couple of times now and I fall in love with it each time I pick it up. I love the story. I love the Biblical parallels. I love the writing. I just love this book. If I am lucky I will get to read it again this summer!!
What are you reading this summer? Have you read any books from this list? Do you have any suggestions based on the books on my list?? I would love  your input!
Happy Reading!!

  1. LOVE Redeeming Love! It is such a good book… one that you can read over and over again! =) Several of those educational ones are also on my summer reading list!

  2. Organizing my classroom library is an annual event! It does get better each year though. I CANNOT wait JKR’s new book. I hate to admit it, but I will sometimes get teary eyed just thinking about it, because I am so excited. Oh when Potterheads grow up… :) Anyway, Good luck with the organizing!
