more classroom updates!

Our first Open House of the year is TOMORROW! Now, in the world of private school teachers, this is a VERY big deal. This is where many prospective parents come in wondering if this school is “right” for them. They come in full of questions and demand answers. It is an intimidating experience but it’s also the nature of the beast when you work in a private school.
My classroom is so close to being ready. I just have a few last finishing touches to add tomorrow.
You, friends, get a sneak peak before the Open House. :)
If you follow Cara over at The First Grade Parade, you will  notice my writing boards and anchor charts are VERY influenced by her amazing work.
(*and yes, for those of you who have been keeping up with me, I moved my guiding reading table {they are HEAVY!!} to the back corner of my room*)
This area will be used for guided reading, math, writing, and any small groups that I might be running.  This is the first year in my nine years teaching that I have had one!! I’m SUPER excited about it!!
This year the lamp is a new addition to my classroom and I added stuffing to my milk crate seats from last year!
My August words are in the clear folder underneath the writing board along with supplies hung up on removable clips. These words will change each month.
These anchor charts are ready to go for the launch of “work on writing.” As a class, we will create heart maps for each child to keep in their writing folder to remind them what they can write about.
On the first day of school we will create an anchor chart for what kind of teacher my students are looking for. We will discuss what makes a GOOD teacher and then talk about how our classroom is a family and what is expected from everyone.
From the door, this is what the right of my classroom looks like.
and the left.
That stinkin’ pocket chart is driving me crazy. I use it so much though I can’t take it out. I’m considering stapling it to the wall under the windows….
((and the book corner is still not complete… I’m hoping my shelves get hung up tonight!! I’m trying to practice patience as I wait for this final step to be completed!))
How are y’all doing with setting up your classrooms?? Do you go back as early as we do??
