My new favorite winter craft
10 Dec, 2012. 7 Comments. A Day In First Grade, Crafts, First Grade. Posted By: Kristen Smith

As you know, I love crafts. I love how much you can teach your students when creating art and how it helps not only their fine motor skills but also their critical thinking skills.

I first saw the project on pinterest and it was love at first sight.  I had to create it with my students! {The original link is located at the end of this post!}

We spent three afternoons (20 minutes at a time) creating this project but it was so worth it. At the end of the month I am going to mat these on black and send them home as gifts for the parents. I think they are *that* adorable.

To make this project you need:
Tissue paper
Elmers glue
water colors
paint brushes
white paint
white construction paper

The first day we spent gluing squares of tissue paper to a piece of white construction paper. I pre cut all the squares and had my kids make a mixture of glue and water to use as “glue paint.”

I had them cover their whole paper with tissue paper squares. The easiest way to do this is to dab a little bit of your glue paint onto your paper, then stick the tissue onto it and then paint over the tissue paper. This makes for that nice “modge podge” effect. Don’t worry it there is a white film over the tissue paper, it dries clear!

(When the tissue paper dried, I cut out the trees)
Day 2 we water colored our background.
Day 3 We glued our trees to our paper and then added some white paint as snow!
I think they came out awesome!
I can no way take credit for this craft! I got it from here:
