Five for Friday
27 Apr, 2013. 5 Comments. A Day In First Grade, First Grade, First Grade Science, Uncategorized. Posted By: Kristen Smith
Oh my goodness. Thank goodness it is Friday!! This week was great… but long. Weeks with field trips are always exhausting…
Here is a random smattering of my week.
First of all, the sweet little girl below is named Emma and is in my blogging friend Reagan’s class. Unfortunately,  her dad is battling bone cancer and needs to have surgery to remove his leg and hip bone. Reagan has a fantastic opportunity going on at her blog to help this family. Please check out her blog for you chance to help this family and to get 23 amazing TpT packs! I am so happy to be able to contribute to this endeavor.

In my class we began our Ocean Week and learned a new poem. The kids loved singing this one to “take me out to the ballgame.”

We painted some sea anemones to go on our Great Barrier Reef in the hallway! (Wait until you see the final product!!)
Our plants started to grow– hurray!! (How many other teachers stress out that NONE of the seeds will grow?!)
We totally loved playing our math centers this week.

And of course we had a fantastic time at the zoo!!
If you are going to the zoo and need a recording page, we filled out this one as we walked around. The kids had such a great time and knocked my socks off with how many animals they classified! It was a hugely successful field trip!! Click on the picture to grab your free copy of the recording sheet!
I hope that you all had a great week!!

  1. I am laughing at your plants not growing comment…I’m currently hoping something sprouts this weekend! And, how sweet of you to post this for Emma and her dad. Breaks my heart!

  2. I can’t wait to see the final product of your Great Barrier Reef project. I think I may have to create one myself next year when we study Australia.

    Thanks!

  4. Last year when we planted our seeds, I had 2 of them that mildewed and never grew…my poor kiddos where heartbroken. Hoping that doesn’t happen again this year!
