Testing Week: a very crazy Thursday schedule
18 Apr, 2013. 2 Comments. . Posted By: Kristen Smith

My kids have worked so hard at their way too many tests this week. By the end of the day today, they were ready to take a long nap. Yes, they are first graders but and they were SPENT.

The whole school is still testing tomorrow; however, kinder and first are finished. (THANK GOODNESS) Due to that reason we are going to have the CRAZIEST Thursday ever. I am readily signing up for it since I made the plans… Here is my schedule… Yes, it’s okay to think I am crazy. My kids need a break and they love science and crafts so we are going to go for it.

Here we go, my schedule:

8:00 Morning Work — water our plants that are growing and complete our morning work pages for the day.

8:30 Bible
8:45 Spelling Activities

I found these awesome activities at the nurturestore’s website. If you click on the link or the pictures you can find so many more ideas. I am going to use these activities to really help my guys with the sight words that they are still struggling with.

*Painting words (10 minutes) (I am going to write out words on butcher paper before my kids get to school and set up some fun paint and paintbrushes for them)

(I love this idea of theirs!!)

*Sugar Spelling (10 minutes)
(I am going to put a flip book of sight words up and have my students draw their words in containers filled with sugar.)

* white crayons and water color/markers (10 minutes)

(For this activity students will write their words in white crayons and then paint over their words or color over them with markers.)
9:30 snack
9:45 Specials

I have been dying to find the time to do this experiment. Tomorrow is the most perfect day to do this. Check out this blog post on it. I love Royal Baloo‘s blog.

11:15 Lunch

11:45 Daily 5

12:15 Recess

We did this science experiment when we studied weather BUT how can I pass up the opportunity to make it rain a rainbow?!?! My guys are going to FLIP!! 🙂

1:15 Daily 5

After Daily 5 we will embark on a Discovery Bottle Bonanza Rotation. My students will have to read the  directions for each bottle and put them together themselves. They will love this. {There might be some spills but that’s okay. We will lay out a mat!}

These bottles came courtesy of http://prekandksharing.blogspot.com Make sure you pay them a visit because they have TONS of ideas!!

1) Oil, water, food coloring (10 minutes)

2) Google eyes in a jar (10 minutes)
3) Markers in a jar (10 minutes)

2:20 Tape Resist Painting
We will end the day with a very easy painting activity. I hardly ever have time for “free painting” in my class so my class will really enjoy this. I am going to use blue painters tape and let my students choose what they paint.

2:45 Cookies and a story
2:55 GO HOME

I know, buckle up, it will be a FULL day but after all these tests… we need a “break.”

I’ll let you know how it goes!!
  1. Sounds like so much fun!!

  2. I bet your kids had a BLAST! Sounds like they deserved it 🙂
