Winners, Pictures, and Visual Plans!
14 Apr, 2013. 4 Comments. A Day In First Grade, First Grade, First Grade Science, Uncategorized. Posted By: Kristen Smith
Tomorrow we start our week of testing. {feel bad for me} The game plan is that we will be finished by Thursday but I wrote my plans saying we *might* need Friday for our last few tests.
Because we have testing, my week looks a little bit different. My centers are really easy and fun and in small groups we will focus on skills that we need practice on via a really fun theme.
For centers we will continue our ‘making landforms’ activity that my students are loving. I have landform cards and my students partner up and have to make the landform that their friend tells them to make. They then have to describe why it is that landform.
{TIP- to get this AWESOME color when you make play dough use GEL food coloring. The colors were the talk of all first grade for two days straight!}
If you click on any of the pictures it will take you to a closer look at what we are doing.
For my small groups we will be enlisting the help of some Superheroes to help us with adding -er and  -est to base words.
In this fun activity students will find the base words in the word hunt and then write and illustrate the progression on the recording sheet.
We also will be using my “Spell with me- part 2” pack. For this game I am going to post them around my room and have my students hunt to find them. This will make it even more fun. {I will give them the recording sheet and then have them hunt for the picture card and record it correctly.}
The afternoon will be full of fun. We will play some math centers and then spend the majority of the afternoon doing activities and writing. My students love to draw so I am going to give them one of those HUGE pieces of construction paper and sharpies and new crayons and let them design their own farms on Monday. (They will love this.)
On Tuesday we will really dive into Earth Day with Cara Carroll’s  Earth Day craft, Wednesday we will plant seeds, and on Thursday we will use Hadar’s (Miss Kindergarten) Earth Day craft! My kids are going to love them!
{If you click on the pictures you will get taken to the products or blog posts about the crafts!}

On Friday we will celebrate being finished with our tests by making VOLCANOS! This is an awesome Science activity. We did this when I was in the DR and the kids were amazed! (All you need is a (full) bottle of Diet Coke and a Mentos! Drop in the Mentos and BACK UP!! :)

Congratulations go to Cindy Clark and Kimberly Chalken!! They are the winners of the two Farm packs! Thanks for entering!!
I hope you all have a GREAT week!
