Five for Friday …(on Saturday?)
18 May, 2013. 5 Comments. A Day In First Grade, First Grade, Uncategorized. Posted By: Kristen Smith

Oh man this week kicked my backside. Field Day, packing up my classroom, inventories, parent teacher conferences, and teaching made for a crazy exhausting week.

At my school we have to pack up our classrooms at the end of the year taking down EVERYTHING. The reason is that over the summer the classrooms are used for vacation Bible school. This year they are being very generous and letting us keep up our bulletin board backgrounds. (Which is nice because I use fabric and it is a royal pain to take it down and put it back up again.

Apart from that though, everything else needs to get broken down, taken off the walls, and stored at our houses or in the library. This means that my garage is now a hot mess and is full of my classroom library.

So what has my week looked like in pictures? Well, first things first, FIELD DAY. Oh boy what a day. We had lots of fun, and took lots of spills. This poor child could not stay on his feet in the sack race. However, he finished with a huge smile on his face!

By far the BEST event was the obstacle course that ended with a Slip and Slide! The kids LOOOOOOVED this.
We have continued our camping theme and really enjoyed using Cara Carroll’s camping activities. My class really loved the marshmallow fractions!
We made cute skunks from her unit, too!
My conferences are now finished and by far the best part of them was seeing how excited the parents were about the 9 weeks of summer mini booklets I created for them. They were all super excited for something that is easy to implement and that they can do at home with their children! {That made my day!!}
I have begun “tearing down” my classroom. It’s a work in progress. Little by little everything is coming down, brought out to my car and placed in my garage…
Which now looks like this.
A HOT MESS. {That whole middle white shelving unit is filled with my centers for December… I think I have a problem!!!}
Today I tackled sorting my read alouds by monthly theme… and stored them NEATLY in my garage. {I can’t stand a mess…. the garage will be cleaned, organized and cutsified soon!}
I think that was five things…
5 days left until summer vacation!! How many days do you have left? Do you have to tear down your classrooms like this?? I would love to hear from you!!

  1. So sorry you have to take EVERYTHING down! Thankfully we can keep most things up, but my room is a mess because I have been proctoring our state standardized tests, while one of our teacher aides has been covering my class. It always comes together at the right time, though! Enjoy your last week with your kiddos!

  2. We have to pack up our classrooms and move everything into a corner. We can leave the things up on the walls too. What a mess to have to pack everything up and bring it home! Your mini summer books look great! Are they in your TpT store?

  3. I can see that I am a lucky girl. I teach at a teeny tiny school and there is only one kindergarten. I have the old traditional kinder classroom with bathrooms, sinks and our own yard. No complaining here! HOWEVER, I need to clear that room out and start over. Your summer booklet looks great. How abut one for kinder? Great blog!

  4. I love the idea of teaching to a camping theme! Thanks for sharing :) Good luck organizing!
