School’s out for summer!
24 May, 2013. 3 Comments. A Day In First Grade, First Grade, Uncategorized. Posted By: Kristen Smith

The room is packed up. Awards are given. Tears have been shed. Hugs have been given. Fun has been had. It’s time for SUMMER!

But first, let’s recap with a few pictures from the week. This week was our last week of school. We were finished with our curriculum so we used camping as our theme and ended the year with a really fun week. On Monday we finished all of our Camping tasks and on Tuesday we had our Camping Day! We set up 5 tents on our school’s field and laid out a few tarps to hold our supplies. I also set out my fire pit from home in the middle of the field. I made a Camping Day activity pack for us to accomplish and it was SO MUCH FUN! I don’t know if it will help anyone but I’ll put it up here for free! I guess just ignore my schedule because yours will be different…

We started the day with setting up our campsite and of course taking some goofy pictures in our tents.

We read in our tents and then completed some tasks. These boys were writing about how they think we should start a fire. We had arranged for an expert to come in to teach us all about fire safety and part of our tasks were to think about how we THINK he would light the fire.
We found and created pet rocks.
We hunted for insects.
Oh we also used this really fun Camping Bingo game! If you have a Camping Day I TOTALLY recommend it. We LOVED it.
We also had a great lesson about fires. We learned how to make them, what materials we needed, and then of course we roasted marshmallows and made S’mores.
On Thursday, we had our awards ceremony, classroom awards, slide show, and played some really fun minute to win it games.
Then today was our last day of school. I love that my school throws a BIG last day of school party for everyone to enjoy. We rent out 5 bounce houses, a snow cone machine, and a popcorn machine and have fun, fun, FUN all day. We really had a fantastic last day… just look!
Mmmm… Snow cones! What color is my tongue Miss Smith?!
Racing through the obstacle course!
Got Static?
I am going to miss this group SO much.
After school I emptied out the rest of my classroom, went through our end of the year checklist, and now it’s time to start thinking about next year RELAX!
I’ll start thinking about next year….tomorrow! :)
