Happy 100th Day!!
6 Feb, 2014. 12 Comments. A Day In First Grade, First Grade, First Grade Math, Uncategorized. Posted By: Kristen Smith
Hooray! Hooray! We are 100 days smarter!
 We celebrated the 100th day in fantastic first grade fashion. My students were welcomed to a fully decorated classroom clad in their 100th day t-shirts.
 To make these shirts, you need FABRIC paint. {Yes… I learned that lesson the hard way a few years ago….}
To do this project (which takes two days) I lay out the shirts on all of my tables and only have 3 children paint at a time. I literally squirt a bunch of the paint on their hands and tell them to rub their hands together. Then one shirt at a time, they place their handprints on all of the shirts.
Parents love these shirts and they look so cute. I make sure that each shirt has 100 FINGERS on them. We practice counting as we paint to determine how many more handprints we need.
Then, on the 100th day, we rock the school in our fancy shirts.
Throughout the day we had LOTS of fun with the number 100. We read 100 books,
{each time someone read a book or a chapter, they added a tally mark to this anchor chart}
color in mystery codes,
build unifix trains of 100 cubes,
 build towers of 100 cups (this is a favorite!!),
as a team, we write 100 words,
and count out and eat 100 snacks!
For snacks we eat 10 of each of these foods:
*grapes
*blueberries
*Cheez-its
*Cheerios
*gummi bears
*mini marshmallows
*Goldfish
*pretzel sticks
*M&Ms
*raisins
Throughout the day we do lots of exercises (although my personal favorite is when they do 100 sit ups!) and we write a story about what we will be like when we are 100 years old.
It was a BLAST but, I think it should be a rule that the 100th day of school should never EVER fall on a Monday. I hope that you are having a GREAT week! :)

  8. Love the ideas. Our 100th day is on MONDAY…Feb. 10. I could be in for a world of hurt next week. 100th day on Monday, Valentine’s party on Friday. This year we have had Professional Developments with early release once a month and the 12th just happens to be our day for Feb. So, much excitement next week is going to send me over the edge and to top the week off……it’s a FULL MOON on Friday the 14th! EEEEKKKKK…..Looking forward to our celebration of the 100th day, and warmer weather. (we have been inside all week this week due to super cold weather…….)
